Leuser Ecosystem

Together with Leuser International Foundation, ExxonMobil supports Leuser National Park which is located in two provinces (Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam and North Sumatera). The park is an ecosystem of rich biodiversity stretching from the coastal area of the Indian Ocean to the Straits of Malacca and consists of marvelous landscapes such as mangroves, low-land forests, alpine meadows, freshwater swamps, rift valleys and several volcanoes. Together, we have managed to plant more than 14,000 productive trees along the park’s buffer zone, developed a micro finance institution for the local community, and helped develop the livelihood of surrounding villages of Aras Napal Block in Besitang, Langkat, North Sumatera. These efforts will provide the community with alternative economic activities and avoid infringing on the park’s unique biodiversity.
ExxonMobil is proud to be a supporter of the future of this extraordinary wilderness.
