Empowering Neighboring Communities
ExxonMobil is deeply committed to the wellbeing of the communities where it operates, evidenced by its employee volunteer activities and strategic community investment programs. These programs primarily focus on Education, Health, and Economic Empowerment.
Since 2007, ExxonMobil Indonesia has invested over US$35 million in social and community development initiatives. In its current operations in East Java, the company supports local government efforts to enhance the quality of life for the community.
Education Programs
ExxonMobil considers education as a driving force for progress and economic growth, and it invests significantly in education programs in Indonesia. The company believes students are vital resources for the future, thus it has initiated character-building educational programs in over 90 schools since 2007. These programs also extend to teacher training to improve teaching quality and school leadership in Bojonegoro, Blora, and Tuban. Approximately 22,000 teachers and 36,000 students have benefited from these capacity-building programs.
Furthermore, ExxonMobil has renovated 400 schools and non-formal learning institutions, improving facilities like classrooms, restrooms, laboratories, and libraries. In 2015, the company invested $1.9 million in a school development program in Bojonegoro and Tuban. This initiative, implemented in 12 schools over three years, benefited over 250 teachers and 3,900 students. The program aimed to enhance student and teacher training, school management and governance, and curriculum development. This holistic approach to education is expected to provide widespread benefits and ensure sustainable educational development.
Health Programs
We believe good health can create opportunity, generate performance, and enhance growth. Since 2008, a community-based water and sanitation program has been implemented in the Bojonegoro, Tuban, and Blora regencies. In this program, we installed 35 water towers and 105,000 meters of pipeline network, which has benefited more than 39,000 community members in 25 villages. Since then, the water pipeline has been used to distribute clean water directly to houses. In addition, we also supported a program that provided latrines for more than 3,800 families in 17 villages.
