In Indonesia, ExxonMobil has developed a microfinance program to help entrepreneurs, especially women, learn new skills, generate income and reduce poverty.
The program customizes the group-based credit system by making small, collateral free loans and employs peer monitoring to ensure that borrowers act responsibly, repay the loan and maintain good credit standing.
Since 2008, the program has benefited more than 27,400 people in North Aceh, Majene, Donggala, Bojonegoro, Blora and Tuban regencies.
In addition, ExxonMobil has launched a variety of entrepreneurship programs to enhance livelihoods that has benefited over 3,000 community members through vocational and youth entrepreneurship training, a cattle nourishment program, the establishment of a community selfhelp group, a cooperative for agribusiness manufacturers (Koperasi Produsen Agribisnis) and the establishment of a Business Incubator Center (PIB).
ExxonMobil also promotes the use of alternative energy by using biogas reactor for household activities. This alternative energy initiative has benefited by more than 300 families. Besides supporting household industries, biogas energy has also enabled increasing job opportunities within the neighborhood.
